Biography
Regina Schmeken has been photographing black and white since 1976.
Since 1980 her pictures have been exhibited, among others at the Museum für Fotografie and the Gropiusbau in Berlin, the Lenbachhaus in Munich, the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, as well as the Museum Folkwang in Essen. Regina Schmeken works for Süddeutsche Zeitung since 1986.
She received national and international prizes,including 1978 the Critics Award of the “Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie” in Arles / France, 1984 the award for artistic photography of the City of Munich and 1996 “Dr. Erich Salomon Prize” of the German Society for Photography. In 2021 Regina Schmeken was a fellow of the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo.
Her works can be found for example in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art / New York, the Museum Ludwig / Cologne, the Bibliothèque Nationale / Paris and the Lenbachhaus / Munich and Deutsche Bundestag in Berlin.
